Travels: Roadtrip to California

Stephen and I decided that staying at home for Christmas and New Year's would be really boring so we decided to go somewhere for the Holidays. We had the choice between Germany and San Fransisco. Well, Germany was first choice of course but plane tickets were just too expensive. So we went on a roadtrip to California. First stop was Albuquerque which we reached after a 10 hour drive. We hit lots of snow in the mountains and for a moment we thought we would have to spend the night on the side of the road in the car because traffic came to a dead stop. But luckily we made it down to the city going 20 miles an hour. Destination for Day 2 was Las Vegas. Before we went on the trip we decided against going there but along the way we got bored of all that desert and hungry for some entertainment. That city is insane!! It was fun walking down the strip and looking at all the crazy hotels. We had a hard time deciding where to stay but decided on the Excalibur figuring that Lilly would totally love it (which she did). We got the room for $36, spend $5 on food, put $2 in a slot machine and left the next day. We arrived in San Fransisco 9:30 pm on Christmas Eve and had a warm welcome by our friends Stefan & Vanessa. Today we started off with awesome breakfast at their beautiful home in Oakland, did some sight seeing and ended the day with great Thai Food. Life is beautiful :)

Here are the first pictures from the trip, more will follow along the way...

We spent Friday in the city, doing some sight seeing. San Fransisco sure is pretty. We love the perfect blend of urban & nature.

Saturday we went up to Antioch to visit our friends Greg & Jennifer. They took us to Muir Beach which is my favorite spot so far. It's absolutely beautiful.

Happy Birthday to me!!
Yesterday was my 29th birthday. I wanted to spend the day in Napa Valley visiting the wineries. It was great. I absolutely enjoyed it even though everybody was telling me that Napa at this time of the year is boring. We also went out to a couple of bars in Alameda afterward. Check out Lucky 13 and Forbidden Island if you are ever in that area. Thanks to Stephen & our friends for making this day one of a kind.

Happy New Year!!!

We spent the day at our friends' house in Oakland playing Apples to Apples all night. It was so much fun we almost missed the Countdown. I took a few pictures, trying out ISO 800 on my camera in low light...

New Year's Day

Went to Muir Woods today. One of the places that was on top of the list for our Roadtrip. So beautiful...

We are back!!

We left San Fransisco on Friday and decided to see L.A. before going home. Luckily we made a little detour to Hwy 1 and ended up in Santa Monica. Really cool city with super friendly people. We had vegan dinner at Real Food Daily (yummy!) and spent the rest of the day on the pier. The next morning we headed down to Venice Beach just to pass the time with collecting seashells and watching the surfers which was awesome. Of course we also drove through L.A. and ended up on the famous Hollywood Hills.
